To show the effect of electric current on a magnet. Comprises a cobalt steel magnetic needle, about 75mm long, with agate bearing supported on pivot mounted on insulated pillar on base and surrounded by a rectangular frame of nonmagnetic metal strip. Frame fitted with terminals for electrical connections. Passing the current through nonmagnetic frame causes magnetic needle to deflect as per Oersted’s Law.

Technical Specifications

  • Demonstrates the effect of electric current on a magnet (Oersted’s Law).
  • Fitted with a cobalt steel magnetic needle (approx. 75 mm long) mounted on an agate bearing for smooth movement.
  • Needle is supported on a pivot fixed to an insulated pillar mounted on a stable base.
  • Surrounded by a rectangular frame made of non-magnetic metal strip.
  • Frame is fitted with terminals for easy electrical connections.
  • When current is passed through the non-magnetic frame, the magnetic needle deflects, confirming Oersted’s Law.
