Objective

To determine the phenomenon of magnetostriction in a metallic soft iron rod using a Michelson Interferometer. Experimental Setup

The complete setup includes the following components:
  • Michelson Interferometer Assembly comprising precision mirrors and a beam splitter for generating interference fringes.
  • Special Mirror Assembly with Solenoid and Soft Iron Rod, designed to observe the minute displacement caused by magnetostriction.
  • Diode Laser with mounting stand and regulated power supply, providing a stable and coherent light source.
  • 10× Objective Lens with mounting arrangement for improved observation and fringe visibility.
  • Support Stand for Solenoid to ensure accurate alignment during experimentation.
  • Observation Screen with Stand for clear viewing of interference patterns.
  • Dedicated Power Supply for the Solenoid to generate the required magnetic field around the soft iron rod.

Description
