The heating mantle provides even, indirect heat to laboratory glassware, most commonly round-bottom flasks. Unlike hotplates, which apply heat through direct contact and can create hot spots, or oil baths, which involve messy and sometimes hazardous liquids, heating mantles offer safer, more uniform heating especially for volatile or sensitive chemical reactions.
