Fabry Perot Etalon

Technical Specifications

The Fabry-Perot Etalon is a precise optical instrument that uses interference principles and is widely applied in spectroscopy, wavelength measurement, and the analysis of detailed spectral features. It is made up of two highly polished, flat glass plates that are placed parallel to each other and separated by a spacer constructed from high-grade silica, ensuring consistent and accurate performance. The standard version of this device includes mirrors with a diameter of about 30 mm and a clear optical area of 25 mm, which supports strong optical performance and efficient light transmission. The reflective surfaces are coated to allow around 50% reflectivity on each plate, which helps create clear and accurate interference patterns. The distance between the two plates is usually set at 3 mm, but custom versions with different spacer thicknesses and sizes can be made to suit specific user needs and research purposes. This device is often used with light sources such as Mercury and Sodium to observe interference patterns, measure variations in wavelength, distinguish closely spaced spectral lines, and examine optical coherence. Because of its high resolution and accuracy, the Fabry-Perot Etalon is commonly found in physics labs, schools, optical research facilities, and advanced spectroscopic studies. It is a key tool for illustrating interference effects and performing precise optical measurements in both educational and research settings.
