It is precision instrument used to measure the radius of curvature of spherical surfaces. It features a small metal frame supported by three legs arranged in an equilateral triangle, with a central finely threaded screw acting as the fourth leg. A pitch scale marked in millimeters (10-0-10 mm) is fixed at right angles to the frame, and a circular scale attached to the screw head enables fine readings.
